Driving home on the blacktop tar...
On the way home from Lexington today I experienced completely clear roads. It was wonderful. It was the first time I really enjoyed driving in quite some time. City traffic is terrible; it takes all the joy out of being behind the wheel. If I hadn't run out of road this afternoon I could've kept going for hours. Soon, soon I will go on another trip. Too bad Rochester fell through.
I miss being a nomad. Parts of it anyway. It was expensive and I had a lot of nights on hardwood floors that I could do without. But anytime a place or a person wore me down, I left. I got all the time I needed to think during my hours in the car. I got to practice singing without worrying about neighbors hearing me. Plus something felt good about being transient, about NOT being dependable. Every few months I ponder dissappearing into oblivion for a few days but at least 2 people would freak if I did, and it doesn't have the same charm if I tell them where I am going.
