an old poem

I can't think of anything profound to say tonight so I will instead post a poem I wrote almost a year ago that I am quite fond of.

"City Silence"

on the cusp of winter and spring
the cold clings to drops of moisture
in the air, working its way
into my bones, holding back
the greening, filling the space
between mortal and night sky.
no breeze to move the few
brown leaves still clinging
to weakened branches.

this hidden side street won't
see another gas driven
monster until the sun pulls
its sleeping children from their
beds. two blocks away
the only sound a strained
ear can catch, the low rumble
of the last train coming into station.
