Today at the after-sschool program we had this guy who does an animal show talk to the kids. His menagerie ranged from a tiny lizard to a 4 foot alligator to a descented skunk which is the cutest thing ever. I may have to get one someday.

I was talking to the guy a bit as he was packing up the animals and he was explaining how a lot of animal oriented charities don't really do good in the sense that a lot of people believe. Did you know that if you donate to PETA, your donation, instead of going to saving an endangered species, may go to paying women $8-20 an hour to show up naked at a company clambake and cause a disruption? (true story.) Or even worse, it might have been part of the several million they spent to get some shady characters to blow up a McD's.

Lest you think I'm just one of the anti-PETA crew, let's lay into the MSPCA a litle. They want to have all pets other than cats and dogs made illegal in MA. And of course there's the fact that they have kill shelters.

I'm sure he could have told me about many more but it was time for us to all leave. I'm sure all these organizations do lots of good work as well, but you just have to be careful I guess.
