My one and only politics post
Sep. 16th, 2008 06:26 pmI avoid discussing politics here for the same reason I avoid discussing politics everywhere: it makes me angry. However something needs to be said as we approach the election, and as I just came back from voting in the primary I'm in the mood to do so. I'm not allowing comments to this post because I'll be damned if my personal journal is going to turn into a political flamewar. Think of this as a Public Service Announcement with an attitude.
A lot of people choose not to vote every year. Some people who do vote throw away their vote by writing in Donald Duck which they think is funny. Some people are rather insistent that there is no difference between the two candidates and that it doesn't matter who gets elected so they won't bother voting, or they will vote for someone who has absolutely no chance of getting into office. If you live in a swing state, those two options are equally irresponsible.
Vote in November. All of you. Everyone on here is over 18 and you damn well better be voting. It takes 5 minutes. It's the fucking presidential election. None of us can afford to ignore it.
If you don't get your butt out there and vote, and then you don't like who wins or what he does to the country, DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT IT. You lose your right to complain to me about the government when you ignore your responsibility to take part in the election process. If I find out one of you has not voted, I WILL call you on it during political discussions. Not voting is the one sure fire way to PISS ME OFF this November. And yes this is true EVEN IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH MY CHOICE OF CANDIDATE.
RARR.
