Bellydancing class starts next week. I'm hoping that the class I will be taking is taught at a more reasonable pace than the one at Arisia. I'm assuming that the Arisia workshop was deliberately accelerated since we were doing all kinds of complicated undulations that I've never seen Shimmeringjemmy do and she's been dancing for about 6 months. Anyway I've been practicing the few things I was able to pick up and it is kind of frustrating. I know all these individual pieces but I have no concept of how to move between the steps. Also I'm unable to move around the floor while doing them. I think I look really awkward while I'm dancing because I'm standing still so much. Plus it takes so much concentration to keep my hips moving properly that I can't do any arm movements or anything, and I'm sure that every part of my body that isn't involved in the movement is sort of hanging there looking silly. I did a lot better at the drum circle but then I wasn't doing the moves RIGHT. I was just doing whatever I felt like doing and it happened to look like bellydancing. I'm hoping that when I start taking the classes, I'll be able to sort of merge the two and not feel like such an oaf. Also maybe I'll be able to figure out how the heck to do the upper body stuff. It just seems MUCH more difficult. I couldn't get ANY of it on the first try and I was able to get a few of the hip moves.

Well, if nothing else I'll have the strongest butt muscles on the planet when I'm done with all of this, not that this will be terribly useful.

Off to Eric's now to have more of Cryptonomicon read to me. This is going to take a really friggin long time to finish. I think my next 100 or so evenings are booked :D
