Well, now that THAT particular piece of fiction is complete I can relax for a while. And what better way to relax than with some nice music. Due to people's tendency to make fun of me for my Placebo mania, I have avoided posting about them in any of my music thingys but if I'm gonna post every half hour for another 16 hours, I'm damn well gonna use everything I've got.
I first heard Placebo's music back in 1999, a couple of songs off their second album, WIthout You I'm Nothing. It was good stuff but my life at the time was chaos and I never investigated further. Years later (2006) I heard an ad on the radio stating that they had another album coming out. "Hey, I remember these guys!" I thought, and I started downloading songs and listening to them. I discovered that it didn't matter which album I pulled from, I liked it all.
A few weeks later I was listening to the radio late at night and the cover they do of "Running Up That Hill" (Kate Bush) came on. I was completely stunned. I couldn't believe how good it was. That's what started me actually buying the albums and getting involved in the forums. Sadly, I discovered they had just completed their Boston show and I didn't get to see them live. Even though Steve the amazingest drummer in the world is no longer in the band, I plan to see them on their next tour. I've got 2 entire concerts stored on my laptop and the live performance is fantastic, everything I like about a live show. Lots of audience connection and interaction, lots of showmanship, but NOT a lot of random blathering at the crowd. Its an intense music dense show.
Here is an amazing live performance of the song that started my mania, "Running Up That Hill." This is one of two times that I will say, without a doubt, the cover is better than the original.
