Warning, EQ rant ahead:
So about 2 weeks ago Wyndam stepped down from his position as guild leader in order to have more time to actually play the game instead of organizing events, resolving player disputes, and keeping track of who has been invited, who hasn't, who is being kicked out, and who did what to who and when. The person he selected to be the new guild leader was Kelraz. There are a lot of good reasons for Kelraz to be running things:
1) Kelraz is a born leader
2) Kelraz is always on line. The fact that he has an LDR with a guildmate assures that he will continue to be on all the time
3)Kelraz had been doing a lot of extra stuff as an officer prior to being chosen as guild leader
4) Kelraz wanted the job and Wyndam did not.
5) Kelraz is good at organization
So all should be well right? Except it appears that he's having a bit of a power trip. Last night he banned someone from a raid for what seemed like a fairly stupid reason. At the same time he allowed someone back into the guild who had been kicked out while Wyndam was still guildmaster. What's more, we had discussed with him before all the reasons that this person was kicked out. I suspect the guy was allowed back in because he is a member if Kelraz's SO's family. I don't care whose family they are part of, if they screw up they are out. That is part of the membership rules which _I_ wrote and Kelraz approved.
Now he is bitching people out for not taking on enough responsibility. He instituted a (really good) system of dividing officer duties so that the poor guild leader doesn't have to do everything. For example, I am officer of fellowship which means I plan parties, send happy birthday messages, and try to generally promote the social aspect of the game. Well there's about 8 different special officer positions that we need to fill. The problem is that a lot of people don't have time or desire to declare themselves to be in charge of say all the high level raids. It just isn't practical to have one person lead every raid, they'll go insane. Kelraz is complaining about lack of dedication. I think he has forgotten that this is not a job, we don't get paid, and no officer is required to take on special duties according to the membership rules (and I know this because I wrote them and Kelraz approved them yadda yadda) I took on the responsibilities that I have because this means i get to plan whatever I feel like planning and people will show up. I could announce that we were all going to get into wolf form and do the hokey pokey in the middle of town and people would probably show up. But Kelraz is not my boss. He volunteered to take ona lot of responsibility but he has no right to expect the rest of us to do the same. Least of all Wyndam. After several months of leading the guild, I think Wyndam has the right to just kick back and play. The same goes for Cyrican who was effectively Wyndam's assistant guildmaster that entire time. Kel has NO RIGHT to expect any more from any of these people than he is getting.
