Went to a party tonight. One of the guests was a dog with more hair than all the 80's hair bands put together. Very nice doogie though. Well trained, very friendly.
Eric and I put in an application at the Pat Brody Shelter (www.catsontheweb.org) to get a cat. Hopefully in a week or two we'll hear back from them and set up an appointment to meet some cats. In the meantime we're gonna go ahead and get the basic supplies (dishes, litter box) so that we will be prepared for when the cat comes home.
I also learned tonight that Subway now has roasted garlic bread for their sammiches! I figured it would suck since it's subway, but it was actually pretty good. It definitely improved my boring ol turkey sammich.
Still trying to track down a sample of my dream dress (www.maggiesotterobridal.com, the dress with the red roses). No one has it. Argh. Somewhat annoying.
I got a bit of work done today on my paper and my project for Vocational Counseling class. I'm presenting on career counseling for women entering the workforce from college. If any of you lady types has a good story about a particularly good or bad career counseling experience, or a work experience of note from your first post college or post-grad schoo job, post away! I need anecdotes! In the meantime I read a Stone Center paper about women in the workplace which was ... illuminating.
I'm finding myself bitching about the school system a lot lately. I am sooooo happy to be getting away from it next week. I know I am supposed to want to revolutionize it and fight and work fromt he inside, but really I just want to torch the whole damn thing. Given that, I think I can do more good being on the inside where I don't have to play by their rules just to get in a room with a kid. What a mixed message it sends that I encourage kids to explore their individuality while simultaneously pandering to the needs of the very system that suppresses them. At least with the medical insurance system I know they are evil and I can say they are evil without risking my ass. Clinic work will be waaaaay better than school based. I'm so sick of half my energy going to finding a room to meet in (because the school doesn't think the outreach counselors are important enough to provide with a work space, yet we are expected to fix all the kids in a week). Half of what remains goes to kissing asses so I can keep meeting with kids. 100% of my energy SHOULD go to my clients. No wonder I'm so fucking tired.
