That song I am quoting from

Writing parts of Winding Down has to happen slowly with lots of breaks. "They" say if you want a good story you have to be willing to torture your characters. I torture Kaden a LOT. First her parents divorce, then she gets tormented by bullies in school, then she goes to a psych ward at 12 because she talks about Faeries and loses it and punches her teacher (I wrote that part last year's blogathon). Then her grandmother dies. Then she comes out and there's more bullying. Then her grandfather dies. Then her father stops speaking to her for 3 years ect ect ect. There's joy in between of course but the whole time she is also trying to figure out how to be both fae and human and the compromise doesn't come easily. "Winding Down" is not her grandfather's death, it is the moment when she realizes he is mortal and elderly and fully comprehends that he WILL die soon. Ouch
However the song that inspired me to write this piece is really very pretty. In this clip Patrick Wolf starts out playing another one of his older songs, drops a few choice swears and then switches to playing "Thickets" on what I believe is a harpsichord.
